چکیده

We introduce wire length as a salient complexity measure for analyzing the circuit complexity of sensory processing in biological neural systems. This new complexity measure is applied in this paper to two basic computational problems that arise in translationand scale-invariant pattern recognition, and hence appear to be useful as benchmark problems for sensory processing. We present new circuit design strategies for these benchmark problems that can be implemented within realistic complexity bounds, in particular with linear or almost linear wire length. Finally, we derive some general bounds which provide information about the relationship between new complexity measure wire length and traditional circuit complexity measures. © 2004 Elsevier Inc. Foundations for a Circuit Complexity Theory of Sensory Processing

We introduce total wire length as salient complexity measure for an analysis of the circuit complexity of sensory processing in biological neural systems and neuromorphic engineering. Furthermore we introduce a set of basic computational problems that apparently need to be solved by circuits for translationand scale-invariant sensory processing. Finally we exhibit a number of circuit design str...

Electromagnetic Simulation for the Modeling of Interconnects

For modern VLSI circuits the well known Moore's law is used to generate road maps describing the expectations for the next generations of integrated circuits in which downsizing is accompanied by increasing circuit complexity and increased die size. This will greatly affects clock speed, interconnects and wire length as illustrated figure 1 [1]. Modern VLSI chips are expected to operate with a ...

Stochastic Wire-Length and Delay Distribution of 3-Dimensional Circuits

3-D technology promises higher integration density and lower interconnection complexity and delay. At present, however, not much work on circuit applications has been done due to lack of insight into 3-D circuit architecture and performance. In this paper, we investigate the interconnect distributions of 3-D circuits. We divide the 3-D interconnects into horizontal wires and vertical wires and ...

Modeling of dual-metal Schottky contacts based silicon micro and nano wire solar cells

We study solar cell properties of single silicon wires connected at their ends to two dissimilar metals of different work functions. Effects of wire dimensions, the work functions of the metals, and minority carrier lifetimes on short circuit current as well as open circuit voltage are studied. The most efficient photovoltaic behavior is found to occur when one metal makes a Schottky contact wi...

Integer Linear Programming Models for Global Routing

M integrated circuit design involves the layout of circuits consisting of millions of switching elements or transistors. Due to the sheer complexity of the problem, optimizing the connectivity between transistors is very difficult. The circuit interconnection is the single most important factor in performance criteria such as signal delay, power dissipation, circuit size, and cost. These factor...
